The power of the ruler is undisputed and uncontrolled. Dictatorships and monarchies are examples of autocracy. The ruler of an autocracy is considered an autocrat. Autocracy has a Greek origin. In ancient times, kings, emperors, and czars were examples of autocrats. The people under an autocracy have no say in the way they are governed.
Fictional example: President Snow in the Hunger Games series is a fictional dictator/autocrat. He is considered a tyrannical president on Panem. He is responsible for the rules of the country and managing the Hunger Games each year. Hurting and killing people is no setback for President Snow. He believes if things are not done his way, they should be ended immediately.
Real example: Adolf Hitler was a real German dictator/autocrat. He lead the Nazi's and the holocaust. He lead from 1933 to 1945. Under his rule, the murder of about 6 million Jews took place. If things were not done his way, he had no problem killing people off. Hitler believed the Jews should be eliminated, so he made it happen. His death was self-inflicted.
